Rust problem

Hi, I've got a 39 coupe which has had the brake lines not connected to wheel cylinders for years. Problem is nuts have seized on the pipe. Would anyone have a home remedy for soaking them in to loosen them. Pipes are off the car and in good condition. Grateful for any ideas. Thanks Denis.

I'd try "Evapo-Rust". Worked well for me. Maybe a molasses solution, since "Evaopo-rust" only comes in a 5 gallon bucket for around $90.00.

Evapo-rust also comes in quart and gallon sizes, I bought the five gallon size as I had a lot to clean up. It works great!

replace the line there cheap.most parts stors sell brake lines in different lenths . the line you have may be pited under the nut don,t take chances with brakes

I second Richard's advice. I replaced mine with store-bought lengths as the double-flaring operation looked tedious and in the end the cost difference was pennies.

I do confess to having a couple of joints where the ultimate length was best met by putting 2 pre-mades together. Piece of cake, though......

You could try the 50/50 acetone / ATF mix. Its cheap and works better than any of the over the counter penetrating oils.

By the lines being open for a long period of time the insides probably look just like the outsides and hard to tell what else is in them. I would not use them except for a pattern. As far as getting the nuts loose the 50/50 mix as mentioned works very well.

I'm sold on this "concoction". I used it for the first time 2 days ago to help remove the bolt inside the water pump. I now keep some handy in an old oil can for future use.
