Runs rough when hot

Heys guys, is it the coil?

I replace points, plugs, rotor, well...everything other than the coil. Yes, I did time it too, I remember on the farm coils would die when they got hot, but they would shut down the tractor, no power at all just DRT. My car sounds like it is missing, or bad timing, when hot (190 degrees). And if it is the coil, which do y'all recommend? Three years ago, I put in the 40kv flame thrower that someone recommended Pertronix 40611 because I am not running a resister in front of it and have 12 volt throughout. I am in Texas, or course, and it is only getting hotter every year. 85 today. So heat probably is going to be a thing. I even thought of mounting the coil somewhere else to get it away from the hot engine.

Plus, sorry to have been away too long. I do think of y'all Got the kids in college, help sell my fiance's house, now selling my house, moved to Mueller in Austin, work has been crazy busy; and I am a damn government employee! We ain't supposed to work so hard...for three years running. Need some FTEs, or more margaritas.

Had the same problem on my 31. Turned out the valve lash was too tight on one lifter. After adjusting all the valves it idled great.

Something I definitely will look into, but my car idles fine, just no power, run running at non-idle speeds.
Thank you,
Chris

I would change the condensor in the distributor. It could be on the ragged edge of completely failing especially when it gets hot.

Next time it gets hot and starts to run rough, try an ice bag on the coil and see if that improves things. You could also try the ice bag on the distributor to cool the condensor. I believe you can still buy a spray used to cool electronic components that is used to find a failing part due to heat.
