Hi Barner's, Did Henry put welting between the fenders and running boards on 34 pickup? Also as you know they are diamond plated steel not rubber I am considering putting on something like plasticoat bed lining. I would appreciate any and all suggestions on what to use. Thank you in advance.
Gary.

Don't know about the welting but if it were me I would paint the running boards with something like Imron. Then get some "magnetic black sheets" such as used for making magnetic signs. Install sheets for 'go' remove for 'show'. :)

Gary-

I can't say anything specific about a '34 pickup but on a '35 passenger car the running board to frame welt was regular fender welting.

I agree with 51 merc imron would be best then cover...what if you dont like bedliner finish after done?

I am not completely sure about the 34 pickup, but none of the other pickups (35-36) or any passenger cars had welting between the fender and running board.

I was going to paint the boards black on my '51 F1 but decided to have them coated with "Line-X". I also had the bed strips coated. The "Line-X coating is very hard and will take the abuse of running board foot traffic and bed use. I did this before assembly. The cost (5 yrs ago) was $35 for each board and $7 for each bed strip ($140 total cost).

My line-x on the boards, My boards were in very poor shape and having them coated was a lot cheaper then new ones. I have been installing the interior and using them, standing turning resting tools on them, and I like it. Some of the areas that are paint are not holding up as well.

What is the large washer under the spacer tube supposed to accomplish. It should not be there.

I knew I should have put the tire on. ;) When disassembled it had a rubber spacer behind that, Maybe so the tire does not rub the cab? Blends rater well I think.

Just the bolt and tube. Ford simply did not leave enough room for the spare to fit in the intended space on any I have seen at least.
