running board cans

I have a set of bear brand gem running board cans in the original carrier, gas,oil,and water. the cans are good condition in original paint. the gas and water can have some rusting inside but are solid,the water can has one pinhole. what would be the best way to treat the inside of the gas and water can? gas tank sealer ? or should I leave them alone?

just for display,but would like the inside of the cans cleaned and preserved.

Those are a nice set. I would clean the rust out with Rust911(at website of same name) and then use the motorcycle size of the POR-15 products, namely their metal-prep and the gas tank sealer. Very good materials and if you follow the directions exactly they work real well. The sealer will fix the pinhole,also. This way they will be usable too if you want.

Just for display- I would slosh some motor oil on the inside and forgetaboutit!
