Run Her Dry?

Another reason for Running the Carb DRY ,maybe that would help stop the Black gummy stuff from building up on the inside of the Carb. caused by the Menthenol added to the fuel these days ?

" imo thats the way its supposed to properly operate. "

I would agree there; I don't always run the carb dry, but I do (try to) always shut the tank-valve off when walking away from the car... whether it's for five minutes or over-night.

Just a "good habit" in my opinion.

Leaving the gas on worked for me for 5 years. One day, it didn't! It's your garage and car(s) your'e gambling with! Of course, maybe you'll be lucky like me, and only have a puddle of gas on the floor.

No one is advocating leaving the car parked with out shutting off the gas lever, just wether or not to shut it first and let the carb bowl level drop. If the gas valve and float does not seal it just prolongs the time before the gas starts dripping, smelling, or releasing explosive fumes.

As gravity is the fuel pump for the A, I always turn my fuel off. The pump is always running even if the engine isn't. I don't run it dry however, just let it run for 10 or so seconds after turning the tap off.

You don't have to if everything operates as it should. Should your float valve stick open then 10 gallons of gasoline will drip to your garage floor, a very dangerous situation!

Especially if you have a gas water heater in the garage also! I just finished changing my 0-10w oil yesterday, compliments of a very small piece of debris and the downdraft curse. I don't like to gamble when the odds are so high.

I used to have a problem with my carb leaking after I would shut the egine off. The problem was with the needle and seat. I went through several suppliers before I found a vender with a very good quality needle and seat. My problem was solved, no more dripping carb. Mitch is correct that it is important to have a properly functioning needle, seat and properly adjusted float.

I rarely ever run the carb dry. I do however, turn the gas valve off as a precaution that something might leak when the car is parked.

I never run it dry just turn it off after im parkng it for the day my carb dosent leek so turing it off id only an extra step. my big problem is that my pecock actualy leeks out its face i dont know why after about a week i lose 1/4 tank of gass out the pecock and onto my floor I just make shure i clean up the puddle before i light my pipe.
