This would suck. O’Reilly is okay but I’m mostly devoted to my locally owned NAPA store. Granted, I’ve known the owner for 40 years but I will say that they are normally the best source for old things; whether car or tractor.

Nothing but bad news to me, NAPA's resources are very deep. They'll go away if it happens. Also the next day service in ALL the tiny towns across the nation they serve will disappear too.

That stinks. Napa is the closest thing still in existence to a real parts store where you can sometimes speak to an employee who knows something about vintage vehicles and technical specs on various components

I hope that doesn’t happen my local NAPA has go to flathead guy, he’ll spend a lot of time with me looking up parts in old books rather than using the computer.

There’s a fairly in-depth story in Bloomberg’s right now on the subject. The key reason Genuine Parts Group is even looking at ANYTHING is because they want to differentiate their Motion business from the NAPA business. Motion is more industrial and HD truck business. When I was with NTN bearing, Motion was a key account.
The devil is in the details and there are a lot of details.
NAPA goes to business one way and OReilly does business another way. NAPA has those pesky car care centers…. That OReilly may/may not care for. There’s lots of other business details that I’m not getting into, including an entire portion of NAPA’s business plan devoted to small business acquisitions, that one of my friends used to work for, etc.

It is interesting that none of OReilly plans seem to have made press in Aftermarket News… that also is noteworthy.

O'Reilly did the Walmart/Dollar General move here in my little town. Came in and built a new store right near our old trusted NAPA to drive him out of business. Our guy was getting old like all of us, so he sold out to some kind of syndicate which has a bunch of NAPA stores.

All young cats working there now at Napa. I like them, but it took a while to start getting the good customer prices. And they just don't offer the old stuff like before. I almost always bring part numbers with me, too. Using the internet more and more.
