Rumble seat bottom 1934

Sorry for what may be a dumb question ... but is the seat bottom for a rumble seat built with a wood frame for the springs to set on or does the spring assembly lay directly on the metal of the rumble seat compartment

Hi Ed,

The rumble seat bottom and back cushions are springs only, no wood. The bottom sits directly on the floor. There are a couple of tabs at the back of the floor, attached in the same area of that water dam that is back there on rumble-only cars, and the bottom cushion clips under those tabs and then is located at the front by the metal dowels that stick up from the floor. I may have some pics that would help you understand this if it's not clear enough.

Here's a pic of the tab to hold the rear of the seat bottom cushion, mounted at the back of the floor by the water dam. There is one of these tabs on each side, you can get an idea of where it goes by other features in the floor.
