rumble seat backrest upper hooks

I can't be the only person with this issue. The upper hooks on the rumble seat cushion backrest fit into two corresponding slots in the inner panel of the lid. When the lid it closed, the cushion is basically suspended horizontally. Going over rough roads causes one or both of the hooks to come out of the slots, causing the upper edge of the rear cushion to hang down. Any cleaver solution to this ?? I'm thinking if the hooks were longer they might not be so apt to come out. I might be able to extend the hooks by welding a 1-2 inch piece onto the hooks. I don't really want to take the hooks off because they are held onto the spring frame by small nuts and bolts that are pretty much buried under the new upholstery. (these are L-B seats, purchased right before they when out of business). Any ideas ??

The spring for the cushion should have extensions at the bottom that you put screws in that attach to holes in the rumble lid.

Yes, I have the lower extensions attached and screwed into nut inserts on the rumble lid and still the top hooks work their way out of their slots.

Are the upper attachments about the same size as the slots? And are they long enough?
Those slots have a slight pitch that allow for a fairly long hook to go in the slot. Don’t have one in the shop presently but 1 1/2” long comes to mind. The lower attachment should add a tautness between the upper and lower attachment

I have had the same problem with my 28 roadster since I got it 6 years ago. I have also thought about extending the top hook tabs by an inch or so. Let me know what you do to fix your problem.

I had the same problem and i extended them about three fourth of an inch. Works well. RAY

When I was having this issue on my 30 Deluxe Coupe many years back, I had some thick sheet brass that I cut to the tab size and extended the tabs by an extra inch. I drilled holes in the brass and the steel tabs and used pop rivets. The pop rivets also act as a speed bump making it tougher for the tabs to slide out...
