Rumble Hinges--Attaching

I have a repro 29 deck lid I would like to convert to a rumble seat. What kind of fasteners work to attach the hinges to the deck lid? Are "D" nuts still available?

D nuts are available, but would be hard to install between the panels. Most make a small plate with nuts welded to match the hinge holes, drill lid then insert made up plate. Could be spot welded in or just use the hinge screws.

Make a nut plate up.

Also the repro lid and the repro hinges are just not right so you will have to be careful in how you make them work. The repro hinges are brittle so do not attempt to put a side load on them. This means you have to mount them so they will be the correct width for the brackets in the rumble area.

I assume you have the reprint of the Ford instructions on how to convert to a rumble?

I would strongly recommend you think about this for a while. It's hard enough to get an original to fit right, let alone repro stuff. And rumble seats are a real safety issue in today's traffic. And finally, a trunk is more unusual, and more practical.
