Ruby Dressed Up For A Wedding

My wife's brother asked if they could leave their wedding in "Ruby" our 29 RPU. I told him sure and told him I'd have to give him a driving lesson. He said they wanted ride in the back and be "chauffeured".

I was a little unsure how to accomplish that without looking too redneck.

So I built a bench seat, installed the rope lights we use for the parade of lights and turned my wife and daughter loose with white bows and bunting to decorate the bed.

Here's how she turned out.

Nice Job! Looks like Bride and Groom had fun and that's what its all about right?
I did three weddings with the coupe this summer and like you offered all the opportunity to learn to drive it. All of them declined and said they wanted to be "chauffeured". I kept telling them that learning to drive an A is way easier than learning to live together in marriage (and less maintenance!)

How did you power the rope lights?
The 150' of rope lights draw 450watts at 120vac. During parades I've used a cheap ($100) 800watt 2-stroke generator in the center of the bed, it works great and will run for several hours. The generator wasn't going to work for this mission since it's noisy and the bed would have the bench with the bride and groom in it.

I used a 12v deep cycle battery and a 1,000watt 12vdc to 120vac inverter. The the lights on battery lasted 1:35 which was more than enough for this mission. I may add another 12v deep cycle battery in parallel for parades and retire the generator.

Thank goodness the DMV folks didn't get wind of that....they would have had a field day!! Very nicely done and am sure it was lots of fun for them........
