Rubber windshield bumper??

On my '29 leatherback, at the upper door post under the windshield frame there is a 5/8" dia hole about 1/2" deep into the wood below. This hole is empty. There is one on each side under the windshield. I have seen one other Leatherback and the holes were also empty. I think there was once a rubber bumper in the hole to stop the windshield from falling hard against the metal doorpost. There is a faint mark where the rubber must have hit the windshield frame. In later model year cars this feature was left out, I assume to cut costs. Does anyone know what this rubber bumper looked like? Thanks Bill G

Bill I saw your post several days ago & finely had a chance to check my early 29 60B. It also has those two holes. My car was a 60K mile car before it was restored in the 80's (except for the interior) & then never driven. All the wood was like new so all that was done to the body was paint. Those holes in my car are only about a 1/16 in deep & barely visible. Whatever was in the holes has been painted over but seem to be soft in the middle. So there may have been a rubber bumper there. I wonder if it was a solid round piece of rubber w/o a button head & has just shrunk over time. Perry B., Snohomish Wa.
