I called AAA last month and they said they could map out a route for me to give me
maximum useage of the "Mother Highway" from my home to the end of the trail. I have not taken them on it yet, but it's on my bucket list.

I did it 13 years ago on a motorcycle. It's a trip back in time --sort of archaeological. The A is a perfect match for the 66 ethos.

We interviewed the author of the book "The Mother Road" for the Model A Times, before we took Route 66 to the 2008 MAFCA/MARC meet. His comment was it is not the asphalt but the people who make Route 66 what it is. To be sure and visit as many local busineses as you can!

And I'd add stay at least one night at the El Rancho like a movie star. On our trip back from Bonneville a couple of years ago we stopped just to take a few pictures. It was 3:00 in the afternoon so I had no intentions of getting off the road that early.

Did a little price checking and the Presidential Suite was comparable to the Days Inn room we had had in Flagstaff the night before......yep, we soaked up some atmosphere and left the next morning.

Good tip!

I don't recognize the name but I'll ask around about him with some of the Old Timers.
