Rope Seal for Early Engines

Sorry this took so long to get posted. A while back someone asked about a rear rope seal from Red's Headers for early engines with the oil slinger. Attached are pictures of the installed kit on a 35 LB block. We used everything from the kit but the rope seal, as we didn't the like height above the rear main cap. We ended up using a 46 to 48 Cadillac rope seal. One of the slingers must be ground off the crankshaft for the seal to ride, see pictures. If anyone has questions, please PM or email me. Thanks Dave/Green Bay

I have been trying to find info on a seal that goes in the bearing cap. Now I get info that one is not need, that it is a labrynth seal. Man! what a puzzle. Do you have anymore info you can supply to me? The main cap I have is just like the one shown on your 1st picture. I would hesitate to machine a slinger off. Thanks Ken

Ken: You would only grind the slinger off if you were using Red's Rope Seal Kit. Sacramento Vitage Ford for one has the parts you are looking for Rear Main Seal Retainer. They list lower as part 5399 and upper as Part 5398. That is for a 37 to 42 85 HP and they are potmetal. They leak as most people said in your other post. Dave/Green Bay
