Rookie Mistake

Well...
I broke the cast iron bellhousing for my 8BA. It's in 3 pieces.
I was running the engine on a stand and the throwout bearing bounced off the clutch fork and got caught up in the clutch fingers (now bent too).
In hindsight, I should never have had the engine running with that bearing on there without the splined shaft to hold it.
Lessons, right?
Maybe I'm not the first person to do something stupid.
I am now needing a new bellhousing.
There are a cople on ebay... not cheap.

Try a wanted ad here on the Barn as well as the HAMB. But be careful as you may attract a bunch of scammers.

if i could remember any of the numerous stupid mistakes i've made over the years involving car maintenance i doubt i'd be willing to mention them. but i will share the fact that after looking for my glasses for several hours the other day, i found them on perched on my forehead. ...i got a kick out of that one.

Do you have a the fully "enclosed" cast iron type that mounts the four bolt-type of transmission or the "open faced" type of bell housing for the older style transmission case? If it's the open faced one, I believe I have one. Let me know.

Oh man, spent 20 mins looking for a 9/16 wrench. It was in my back pocket.

I’ve never seen one like that…..is it a Canadian only thing?…is it the same as the steel one only cast? I probably have an extra steel one, unless you’re doing a restoration……….Mark

I'd never seen one either. I'd sure enjoy an explanation of when / where these were utilized.
Interesting...

I actually have two of these here in Kansas so likely not a Canadian only thing (although I have a Canadian C69 block I picked up in Oklahoma?). No idea what they came off of or even when I acquired them. Possibly Mercury? One is bare and the other is complete with starter plate, bottom pan, and throwout bearing arm. I'd give you the bare one for the cost of shipping, but that might be alot given the weight and going from Ks to Winnipeg.

Unless my memory is wrong that is a typical bell housing for a 52-53 Ford or Mercury.
The 49-51 Fords used the stamped bell housings with the four bolt transmission and a similar clutch arm, but the arm in the 49-51s came down at a steeper angle.

The late 51 Mercury was the first of the design but it was set up for the old style throw out bearing assembly using the rotating fork. In 1952, both Ford and Mercury used the lever type throw out design. Canada used the flathead one more year in Fords but it's the same as the 52 & 53 types.

If the OP has a good lower access cover, that's a good thing. They usually sell for a better price if the cover is missing.
