Roof molding question..

Hi I just finished installing my long grain vinyl roof on my 30 4dr sedan. I ordered the aluminum molding that is used to hide the tacks and I noticed there is a bump out/small channel that sticks out on the underside that goes against the vinyl.Isnt that going to keep the molding from sitting flat against the vinyl. Now I noticed the front piece doesnt have that, the bottom/underside is totally flat. Is this normal or is it a bad reproduction or did I order the wrong stuff....Thanks....Dave...

Oh heres the link.

I ordered part number 29480 for the front which looks correct.
Then i ordered part number 29510 which has the bumpout and I'm not sure of.

Thanks again....Dave

It sounds like you have a Murray Fordor. I don't believe the correct (flat bottom) moulding is available in 10' lengths. Technically I believe the correct moulding is solid with exposed nail heads like the front moulding on 150-B Station wagons.

WoW!!! Grind or machine that channel off that sounds like a major pain.Yah mine is a 4dr Murray. I may have to see if i can find my origonal stuff. I dont think I threw it away it has to be lying around my garage somewhere :) I allmost think it would be easier to clean up the old stuff then try to remove that channel, that is if I got my old stuff off in one piece,I cant remember. You are right though the stuff I took off did have the heads exposed.Maybe I could check with a machine shop and see what they would charge to mill it off.Its a shame that Brattons doesnt tell you its incorrect and that you have to modify it,I wouldnt have bought it if I had known that.On top of that I told them what I was doing ,what car it was for and they only sent me enough for one side :( I allmost think it would look better to have an extra seam per side and use a couple front pieces for the sides.I think if I did it right it would add 1 seam per side just befor or after the bend for the back. Hmmmm I'll have to check it out and see whats best...Thanks guys for the input ....Dave

Thankyou Don I'll have to check my shelves and see if I still have them/what kind of shape their in. When I took them off I didnt pay much attention to them do to I had seen them in books and wasnt planning on keeping them. I hope I still have them and they are in good shap. If not I'll have to think of something else.I dont think anyone would give up a good set. From what I have seen it seems allot of Model A people tend to hang on to their spare parts ,but can you blame them these are rare parts in some cases.

Restoration Supply Co. Has the molding. You need to drill the holes and the aluminum is VERY stiff but can be formed by VERY LIGHTLY heating with a propane torch
