Roof leak.

Got caught in a heavy rain storm the other day and had a drip coming out of hole where the on off switch used to be for the vacumm wiper. The roof was replaced by a previous owner not long back. Do you think It's getting under the beading just in front of the visor ? Can I seal it without taking anything off.

Hi rob,

Never tried this advertised product; but what about the product in that TV Ad where a guy installs a screen door in the bottom of his boat, sprays it with black rattle can sealer, and after he gets in his boat, his "screen door" boat bottom does not leak, even under submerged boat bottom upward water pressure.

Just don't use silicon. It will harden and the seal will break, and then you'll have a heckuva time cleaning adequately. Plus if you paint anything in the space where you used it, the paint will fisheye.

I was thinking of the back edge of that strip of beading where the roof covering meets the bead. How is that beading held down ? I actually was thinking of black silicone, a good grade one like used in plumbing sanitary use. You have to laugh I fix peoples roofs for a living

I actually was thinking about black silicone, the good grade sanitary stuff. How is the beading held down. I think the rain runs down the roof hits the back edge of the beading and finds its way into that U shaped channel and drips out of the wiper switch hole.
You have to laugh I fix peoples roof's for a living :)

The beading is held down by nails/tacks, at least on my 31 Tudor!
Maybe you car is due for new shingles :-) I used some black 3m trim adhesive to seal when I replaced my top!

Silicone promotes rust. A good windshield installer taught me this, and it was proved by looking at the cars and trucks in the junk yard where silicone was used by the owners.

I get the same thing on the truck with no wiper motor on it (not a high priority in southern Calif.) A small drop of water will blow through the open wiper switch hole and hit ya right in the face every now and then.
Just find a little rubber plug for the switch hole and I bet you'll be good. I would try it before putting a bunch of silicone around the top and windshield.

Silicone promotes rust.

Not all silicone sealers promote rust, non-corrosive silicone has been available for a long time, but you have to look for/ask for it.

The "muck it" method rarely works and is usually unsightly

As Phil said if it's coming in the open hole that u mentioned for the vacuum wiper just plug it

the windshield hinge is a good possiblity . mine does a little when I wash it . just (as said) carry a towel
