Roger Kauffman

As someone else stated earlier, Roger's technical column was the first thing I looked at when I received my "Model A News". A sad event for the Model A community.

My sincere condolences to his family and all of his friends. Don/WI

If you never had the chance to meet Roger in person, you missed out. That man could tell a story and have every bent over laughing. He was a great asset to the hobby and will be missed.

As a brand new member of MAFCA/MARC in late 2010 my wife & I attended our first meeting at the Dayton Buckeye Chapter.
We did not have an "A" but had been looking and was hoping on getting some good advice and tips through the club.
Unknown to us at that first meeting we were sitting next to Roger Kauffman, he was gracious and made us feel welcome. Told him we were looking for a car and he told us that when we found one we interested in he would be glad to check it out for us. After looking at several cars we found one in March that met our criteria.
By this time we had discovered that Roger was one of the "kingpins" of the organization. With some hesitation and trepidation I called Roger and asked him if it was possible to look at this car, his reply was "I told you I would didn't I".
He gave up his day and drove 75 miles ONE WAY to help us.
He gave the car a good going over, drove it & even checked the title. Afterwards we spent about an hour over cokes at a local eatery letting me ask all the questions I could think up. Only after answering my questions did he give me his opinion of the car, the good and the bad, telling me the car was solid, mechanically sound and a good buy. Now knowing of Roger's expertise this gave me the confidence to complete the deal.

We only knew Roger for a too brief time but respected his knowledge and knew what a class act he was. He will be sorely missed by all.

Leadpot,

Calling hours will be Tuesday 5pm to 7pm, funeral Wednesday 10:30 at the funeral home, Kindred Funeral Home www.kindredfuneralHome.com for online condolences. Contribution to American Heart Assoc. We will all miss Roger, always enjoyed talking to him and reading the technical letters.

I was fortunate to learn under Roger as an apprentice fine point judge at the 2009 MARC meet in Merrillville, Ind. Of course I was overflowing with enthusiasm and his favorite saying to me was, "Now let's not get excited." He will be missed.

I only met Roger once, but was looking forward to meeting him again. It was his story about Bert's in Denver that made me have to make that trip also. This sad news comes as a great shock and Roger will be missed by many in the Model A community. Gone much too soon, Roger was only 58 years old. My condolenses to his family.

Roger will be truly missed by us all. Ken and I have many fond memories of him from all of the National MARC Meets and we even got to visit his garage several years ago. What a treat that was! He has been an outstanding Technical Chairman for the Model "A" News - and will be missed. I already have a column from him for the July-August issue (in addition to the one that will be published in the May-June issue.)

We are putting together a memoriam article on Roger for the July-August issue, as he was a long time Contributing Editor to the Model "A" News.
I have some great photos of him that I can include in the article.

I have been in touch with Dee Dee, his wife, who was shocked - but is hanging in there.

I have told her that a lot of folks have been remembering Roger on this forum in the past few days - and it is greatly appreciated.

All of our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Dee Dee, his family, his friends, and to all of his Model "A" friends. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. He will be greatly missed by me in the MAN. He sure could tell a great story!

I am so sorry to hear of Roger's passing. He surely will be missed. My sincere condolences to the family. Jim Langley...
