Removing and replacing a brake pedal only is much simpler than changing bands and linings!
How:
Remove 6 screws holding the insp cover (remove ignition key first, as it can fall into the abyss).
Pack counted rags into the right side under the nut and washer on the brake pedal shaft. That's to keep from dropping the nut and washer when you pull away the pedal and shaft. (Be sure to remove the exact # of rags placed.)
With screwdriver blade or lever, rock back on the right side lug of the brake band, to compress the band spring that is between the lugs of the band. That will lessen pressure on the nut, wrench off the nut carefully and the single toothed washer on the brake shaft....carefully, do not drop these into the transmission....bad news if that happens. You can also wrap a long nylon tie strap or piece of brass wire wrapped around both ears of the reverse band loosely, that will keep the ears from expanding away against the side of the hogshead, and make it easier to reinsert the brake pedal shaft with the ears in the relative closed position.
With nut and washer off the shaft, withdraw the pedal and shaft, be careful to capture the band spring in one hand as you remove the pedal....you don't want to drop that spring either.
Replace with new RM pedal and shaft by pushing it in and into both lugs of the brake band.....and reverse the operations to install the pedal again.
