The modern gizmo: It is a Topeak (company) "Pressure-Rite".
"Available only from professional bicycle shops", so don't waste time at any amateur bicycle shops...$6.94 from Amazon.
It is a 90 degree Schrader female coupling to the male coupling where your tire pump screws on. It contains a check valve (low pressure one in, don't quite understand but not a problem) and a secure one out, so it fills the missing check function that was performed by the weak Schrader cores of 1930 and provides the pin to open modern stiff Schraders.
It is very well made in Taiwan...if it were brass instead of aluminum, it would look like a tool from 1930. Female couplig swivels, allowing it to point for beas access. Tool isabout 1" X 1 1/2" and weighs approximately nothing. Instantly makes your original pump fully usable in the modern world. Your original kit can work for a living to pay its own freight.
