Roadster seat Cushions

I tend to skirt the line here a bit with one of My A's. My roadster while still a 4cyl flathead and OEM transmission-it is fenderless and has some period "go fast parts" winfield head, intake and carb. It's all A though, but I call it my hotrod and I want it to drive as "A" as possible. I try to keep it with as many stock A parts as I can. Stock wishbone, stock steering column and wheel. This car is nearing completion, and I up to the interior. I am a tall guy with tiny legs. I am using a stock seat riser but I need to lose a little height in the cushion. Are there any off the shelf foam sources available before I have to deep dive into learning the craft of foam carving as well?

If you Have an original seat it doesn't have foam. Even if someone has reupohlstered the seat more than likely it doesn't have foam. The stock seat spring is attached to a wood frame. There are no spacers or risers except the coil spring, some padding, and the tufted seat covering. If you are willing to change the seat covering and eliminate the tufted cover material it might help to lower the final height. I am not an upohlsterer but I just finished redoing my Tudor seats which have the tufted covers. They are approximately 2" thick so by eliminating them it might do what you are looking for.

I have 1929 Which doesn't give you much room. I took out the back seat cushion and had a thinner foam one made up using the original material. Then I slid the bottom seat cushion back on the riser back to where it met the original seat back. It lowered the seat quite a bit. Pull the rear cushion back and slide the lower seat back and see if it helps or not.

You will need cushion foam, not lawn furniture foam.Old bus seats seem to have the right size to make a seat for an A.Old,(80's) Caravan seats have a third seat that is the right width for A trucks and roadsters.I've never seen the backrest used, but the bottom cushion lays on the seat riser just fine.Trim shops will know the foam you need, not the department store stuff. You carve it with an electric knife.

The riser has been removed on my Roadster and the cushion mounted directly to the floor.

What did you do about the backrest? Did this leave a gap? I dont have either cushion at the moment.

A custom frame was added for the back of the seat to mount to. The seat back was also lowered and tucked slightly under the rear of the body. I'm 6,2 and am totally comfortable driving it.

I think the seat I'm using is out of a Coupe or Sport Coupe
