Riveting on frame question

For those of you that have replaced rivets on various parts of the frame.
Did you make your own bucking bars?? If not, where would one find these items.??

Thanks!!

Bob

A junk Model T or A axel makes a good bucking bar. Cut off the threaded end. Then grind a pocket in that end to the shape of the rivet head. This can all be done in less than30 minutes.

Brattons has the correct waffle pattern style bucking bars. Or aircraft suppliers have any shape and material you could dream of.

There was a very good article in the Jan/Feb 2013 Restorer magazine that shows how frame riveting is done. It shows a homemade bucking bar the authors created. I have the article on my computer, so if you don't have the magazine, I could email it to you. I would need your email address.

Note to andyg,
A waffle tool was NEVER used on frames, only the body riveting.

If you check aircraft parts website such as "Aircraft Spruce" you will find a selection of bucking bars. Gar Williams

I bought one from Snyder's about 15 years ago. It's about a 1"dia steel rod about 1 foot long, last 4" tapered to about 3/8" diameter and the rivet head shape is ground into that end. I found it too light to use for running board bracket rivets so my son held it on the head and then held a medium wight anvil on the end of it. Red-hot rivet and air hammer rivet tool on the other end did a nice job.
