Ring and Pinion

yes! I fitted one into my 35 back in the 70's...it was new, aftermarket. Don't know the brand.

Hi Lawrie, I spent a lot of time trying to find a new 3.78 10 spline for my 34 pickup, but no luck Im afraid. This was 10 years ago when parts on ebay and elsewhere were more plentiful. I ended up changing the drive shaft spline to a 6 so that I could use the later 3.78 ring and pinion. This also needed a shave ( the pinion) so that it could enter the housing. I have the modification notes somewhere. Ive been running this diff set up now for quite some time without issue.

Dave thanks for that
I have the 3.78 6 spline in my 33, with the modified shaft and pinion.its a quite as, but it took me a lot of work.
My 34 had a 6 spline with the modified shaft and pinion, I spent ages trying to get it smooth as the 33, in the end I put in a 3.54 and the original drive shaft, its now as quite as , but with the little engine its a but lethargic , so though a 3.78 would be good, I dont want to go to all the trouble of machining a pinion and modifiying the drive shaft ,and then getting it to run true.
Looks like the 3.54 will stay.
Thanks all.

35 and 36 had 10 spline 3.78.It will work perfectly in a 33,34 banjo although the pinion will have to be ground (or machined) for the 33,34 pinion bearing and the driveshaft shortened.

As Deuce Lover posted... This is exactly what I put in my 34... Pinion ground by a crankshaft grinder, to 33-34 specs, spacer added, driveshaft shortened. Luckily, my crankshaft guy was also a flathead guy, he knew what to do, and he took a 33-34 pinion, and measured it to determine the finished size for the later (37-38) 10-spline pinion. The spacer could be made, but in my case, I found an appropriate wheel bearing part with the correct dimension. (For my use, the 3.78 was a very good choice.)

Types of banjo ring/pinion combos:

32-34 (10 spline)
35-36 (10 spline)
Late 36 (6 spline) [I have heard of these existing but not actually seen one]
37-48 (6 spline) [same as late 36]

I was under the impression that 4.11, 3.78, and 3.54 were stock or dealer options for all of these.
