Made in 1933, this animation depicts the story of a Ford worker who goes home from work one car short of the production target and dreams that the outstanding one is built by a fairy. The car is a 1933 V8. The film shows the factory production line, plus an exceptionally detailed, comprehensive look at the V8 construction in all its stages.

Amazing is indeed the word! Car seemed to be '34. though I believe a lot of '34 features went on last '33's...
Was that still the forged crank? Guides were the late style.
Tool pics at beginning were very interesting...maybe if I stare at some of the odd widgets I can figure out what some of them do. The row of tools spinning down were the boring tools for the valve/guides/tappet areas...
Now, we need a link to pictures of the Diego Rivera assembly line murals: They were done in '33, I believe, and offer another view of the same events...pictures in the murals are modernist but detailed and realistic enough that the Ford parts are entirely recognizable.

Here is one piece: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3614/3430531936_c1a155b1f4.jpg&imgrefurl=http://flickr.com/photos/8582863%40N08/3430531936&usg=__z5Ux_LAyp0hWNwRhcG_Ujie9-QU=&h=338&w=500&sz=153&hl=en&start=7&zoom=0&itbs=1&tbnid=MS3yZ1-jpl47pM:&tbnh=88&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3DFord%2B%2522assembly%2Bline%2522%2Bmurals%2B%2522diego%2Brivera%2522%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%26as_st%3Dy%26tbs%3Disch:1

A little poking around on Google image at
http://images.google.com/advanced_image_search?hl=en will find more...how many parts can you call out by number?

Gosh, Reminds me of going thru the Ford plant in 1964 in Mahwah, NJ. Amazing! I think it took about that long to assemble the car back then. Very neat piece of history.

Great vid. Interesting that they shot the cranks just as they were with the weights still attached for balancing.

Actually I do have a similar VHS tape on the V8 production at the Cologne plant, I just need to have it digitized somehow

I got my diego rivera frescoes from the detoit institute of arts.
They have an online store.Lawrie

I have some nice photographs of the Rivera frescos I bought at the DIA museum store years ago. I had them framed and they are in my living room... I imagine they are availble online now.
