Rex-A-Co oil gauge

Is there only one maker of these? Mine says "Dave Wilton" on the botom of the gauge. I'm guessing old Dave is a nice guy, but the gauge is junk. The needle fell off and I had to pry it apart to put it back on, now the gauge doesn't work. Paid $60 at a car show for it and it sure doesn't seem like $60 quality. Is anyone else having bad luck with these?

Kevin;

I bought one a few months ago and the needle was 180 degrees off of where it should have been a rest. I returned it to Brattons and, like the good supplier that they are, they sent me a new one right away. The new one is fine. When you get one you are satisfied with make sure the fittings, including the one that goes right into the gauge, are tight. Otherwise they will drip oil onto your mat.

BTW this was a Rex-A-Co gauge.

Chris, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for this. Like I said I bought it at a car show from a guy and there is no returning it. I'll try Dave. If it's a bust I'll just buy a new one, no big deal.

Here is one I found on eBay.

Hey Chris... That's the one that was in my coupe when I got it. Works well. Neat to see the box it came it! Thanks for posting the picture, and nice find!

Reputed to be original? 6-8 lbs on cold start up. Barely above 0 lbs once warmed up with 15-40w oil.

I had always questioned this Rex-A-Co gauge being represented as NOS, when I purchased it. It was just too clean and without a speck of tarnish or wear.

Good news: When I recently disassembled for cleaning; there was a date imprinted on the brassworks.

Bad news: It indicated "May 1937". :eek:
