Reverse fender spare question

Not to hijack a post on using fender spare tire mounts......... how difficult is it to take them out and make the fender spare tireless?? Go back to a smooth fender? Easier/cheaper to just replace the fender??

Inquiring minds want to know:p

It really isn't any harder that putting one in. Probably easier. The filler panel can be made if one can be cannibalized. However it is like All body work results determined by skill of the one doing it!

I had the same problem. I found a good fender at a swap meet for $150 and then took off the other front fender and had them both refinished the same. I was able to sell the fender with the well in it the following year at the same swap meet for the same price I paid.

Personally, I think it is not as easy to find someone willing to swap. I know of quite a few people who have nice welled 28/29 fenders and are looking for non-welled fenders. Not too many folks looking to trade on that one!!

The other issue is many wells in fenders were either installed incorrectly or they have the repro well that is the incorrect shape so again, many are not interested in trading unless it is an original welled fender, ...which seem to be very difficult to find. Factor that in that finding two fenders that are the same condition to get an equal trade is sometimes difficult too from what I have experienced.

I agree with Brent. Finding an equal with someone willing to trade is rough. You might consider the repro fenders we used them on the roadster pickup and they worked quite well.

Is there something other than personal preference that would make the welled fenders less desirable?
I have original welless 29 rust free fenders and have wanted to add a fender spare but it has always seemed like a option that was'nt important enough to justify the expense.
Should I be happy with what I have? Or maybe I might want to trade?

I don't know what 1928-29 fenders interchange with what models but I've got a perfect welled fender I'd love to trade so I can get my big size 12s through pu door.
