What did the step plate and running board edge molding look like when new? My step plates appear to be solid aluminum but they are severely scratched from years of use. Being solid, the scratches can be sanded out but should it end up with a dull finish or should it be a higher gloss polished look? Something else?
Also, should the serrated flat part be painted black followed by a light sanding to expose the raised "nibs"? The recesses are now clogged with dirt.
The running board edge molding is severely stained and discolored. It appears to be steel. I've sanded off some down to bare metal and that takes care of the discolored condition. But, what should this molding look like when I'm done? Was it painted, dull or a gloss finish?
I intend to buy new rubber mats from our Model A parts supplier as they are too far gone to restore.
