I have a early 28 gas gauge I need restored. It will probably need a new housing as the threads are buggered up, and the lettering redone maybe plated, I found in in a box from being restored 25 years ago and beings its early 28 would like to keep it

You can have the dial chrome plated if your's is bad, then just use black and red lacquer paint to repaint the letters. If your threads are bad and a thread file can't fix it, then you'll have to find another nut. The repro nut I tried years ago wouldn't screw in because the plating made it too tight.

All Model A gas gauges were not plated. They are polished Aluminum. The rings were nickle plated.

Steve, I have an early 28 with the plated steel dial. I'll have to see if I can find it and take a picture. True, not ALL were plated, but I don't know if you meant NONE were plated?
