Restoring a steering wheel

I just purchased a T steering wheel that is in nice condition, but I need to know if the hard rubber(?) or soybean plastic(?) gets painted or just cleaned and sealed? I have done a couple Model A wheels, but have never tried a T wheel before. Any help here would be appreciated. Thank you.

Others may differ! :) I have never done anything to mine. Paint or sealer will make it slick, you don't want slick. The black does not come off like the red A wheels. Give it a clean up (hot water and soap should be good) and a lite sanding with something like 600 grit and call it good.
I do not recall that I have ever seen anything about being painted from the factory, the wood wheel different story.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was hoping for something easy like a good wash and some 600 grit. I'll give that a try.

MNFATS , what does it take to restore a model A steering wheel ?
I was going to hit mine with some real "heavy" grit compound to "hopefully" keep it from getting sticky on hot days .

I would ask on the Model A forum. The material used to make the Model A wheels is different then Ford used on the T wheel.
