Restorer took a short cut...I think.

A test question for you Bill.......................what is that hanging on the fence wall to the left of the outhouse in the photo?
WELL, I think I see a steel trap & thet other thing "might" be a home made scythe handle?? Last time I wuz back to Uncle Charlies', he had an assortment of different sizes of traps, just hangin' on the barbed wire fence---"BUT they're gettin' RUSTY"---"RUST don't hurt them none"
Chief accidentally, almost cut my Dog:cool:, Bulgers' R/F foot off, while using a scythe. Bulger was in the grass, guarding Chief's coat & water jug. After some splints & bandages, his foot was saved, but crooked. The Dog:cool: & I limped, like twins. I could write a book about thet DOG:cool:
IF anyone is restoring a BLACK '29 Tudor, with KROOKED rear bumper backets, it "might" be our old family car, thet we used to tow the outhouse to the freshly dug, "NEW HOLE"! Chief "engineered" the privy, with 4 X 4 skids. Seems like we had that car FOREVER & traveled EVERYWHERE. With just Bulger & me in the back seat, I tole Chief, "I like these LOOONG back windows, they're like my windows to the WORLD"!!!! Bulger DIDN'T say ANYTHING.
Uncle Gump owned several vacant lots, in our small town. His small house was on skids, convenient to be moved to a different location, depending on what season it was. He had a D-4 Caterpiller, with a dozer blade to keep the lots cleared & to "tow" his house. Once, on a trip there, the house was GONE:eek:--We just followed the skid marks to his NEW address & Momma wrote it down in her LITTLE BLACK BOOK!
These stupid, fun, little stories I relate, are ALL true! "Maybe" it would be fun to live like back in the old days. "Maybe" I'd like to live in a cowboys' line shack & only be concerned about WATER, FOOD, & A WARM FIRE! If I wuz too tired to cut wood, I'd supplement it with dried COW CHIPS, they burn slow & hot, like a BIG BRIQUETTE (SP?) & they grill steaks BEAUTIFULLY!
My friend, Jones, had a nice BIG house & a HUMNGEOUS insulated shop for his Hot Rod & some old Packards. After his Dear Wife passed away, he had a very comfortable studio apartment constructed in the corner of his shop & rented the house out, complete with ALL the furnishings!!!
After my friend, LEEROY, & his wife broke up, he lived, FULL TIME in a MOTORHOME, his wurds of "wisdom" wuz---"DON'T EVER EVEN THINK UF DOIN' THET" !!!!
After getting an apartment, he made bookoodles uf $$$$$'s, renting the motorhome to friends, while they were tryin' to reconcile with their SWEETIES!

an old apple butter vat paddle!!! The old scy is further doon the fenceline.

Ya don't want to push cows, I did in Montana a few years, dumbest creature on four legs!!!!!!!!

So, Bill!!! did Model A's leave the factory with wire and padding in the roof???

31,
Almost reluctant to use common sense, but, I'm sure the wire & padding were there, except "maybe" on some pickups, that had NO headliner. The FOWL WIRE, to keep it from sagging & the padding/batting, to give it a smooth look. Chief used Mommas' Quilting Cotton & chicken wire was usually around, if the car had none. For temporary holding, while stretching the roof covering, we used horseshoe nails, tapped in part way. They go in & come out easily & hold well & don't seem as likely to tear the material.
In a later 101 session, I'll tell you how I "simulated" long grain Copra, on a roof that had been done in a decent manner, including the HIDE-UM WELT, except, that they used heavy canvas as the final covering.
