Restoration Guide

Does anyone have any suggestions on where a person can find a restoration guide for a 1929 Model A Pickup? I'm looking for a book that lists all of the parts and where they go, pics & how to's...etc. My Model A has quite a bit of rust and missing parts and some sort of guide would be extremly helpful.

you are not going to find one book that does it all. A good start is "Restoring the Model A Pickup". Its mostly pictures of an original 29 and will help. A copy of the 29 Ford parts catalog will help too. Catalogs from several parts vendors are pretty complete as well. And of course the Judging Standards are invaluable. Its gonna take some due diligence on your part, but many here have done that so you will benefit from asking questions too.. Good luck

I can not think of a book that will illistrate all you want to see. Chances are you will have to assembly a library of books like many of us have. Model A Judging Standards and the Model A Service Bulletins are a good place to start. I have also found chassis wise the Lubrication chart has some details that are helpful at times. The pickup chassis is the same as the car, so no real differences there. I have many of my books loaned out to a freind right now, so can not really make a list of the others that might be helpfull. Don't waste your money on the "book" , "Restoring the Model A Pickup" which is really only a magazine, and is full of out of focus, blurred, hard to see photos. This rag has been around for a long time and i would hope whoever publishes it would stop production as it is a virtual scam for the price they get for it. Big disappointment !

I don't have a pickup, but like to own many different Model A books, and I found a good used copy of this one at a swap meet for $10. I agree with Vince and have found it has some good pictures and information, and am glad to have found it for that price. I do agree with Mike that it is probably overpriced, but I'm glad I have it.

I found a used copy of Restoring the Model A Pickup on eBay. There was no way I was going to pay the list price for a new one. Tom's buy at $10 is about what it's worth. On the positive side, there are some pictures in it which you won't see in any other books.

I also agree with Vince and Tom. The book is not worth the list price of $25 or $30. I also picked up one on Flea Bay for about $10 or $12 a year or so ago. I does have some good pictures, but not the best book ever written (or best picture book).
