Reproduction water pump block off plates

I have one water pump block off plate for using pre 1936 heads on a 1937 block. I have only one of these and I want to make some reproduction sets out of aluminum. Is the indention in the back necessary for them to work right? Also I assume that both the left and the right are the same, is this correct?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ive often wondered if they made something like these for the 49-51 trucks. Get rid of both waterpumps and run electric instead.

IMHO....I'm not sure about the rib, looks like a stiffener of some sort. I know a while back someone was making them out of aluminum. They were using countersunk allen bolts and painting them to match the block to help make the plates less noticeable. They were very smooth so they didn't quite blend with the block surface. If the alum surface was rough they might blend better.

Thanks, I am planning to sand cast them and that will give me a rough finish. Also the indention I'm asking about is the round indention on the back.
