Reproduction dash light question.

I have purchased a repro dash light for the center of an oval speedo dash. Turning it on is easy with a push and turn to the right. When I turn the light off by rotating back to the left the chrome cover has nothing holding it from just falling off on the floor. Am I missing somthing, or is this a case of a product made from not-so-good chinesium? Can I bend somthing to give more grip somehow? Thanks experts.

i changed mine also and it falls apart i try not to touch it anymore. the original one i saved but would need refinishing.

I bought a repro about 2 years ago and found the same problem. I then bought a restored 'original' from phoneconn (?phonconn) who is listed as an eBay seller. He often has this item on his list - sometimes beautifully cleaned up, nickel plated and butlerised. I took off my chrome repro instrument panel and bought a nickel plated one for a 29 from phoneconn (Dan Bixby) which looks much more correct for the period.

Good luck.

I bought one from Doug Bruce- restores them for Dan who has the Nickel done. A hand and hand deal between the 2] .Anyway the repro cover will NOT fit a orginial unit. [Larger in Diameter a hair thicker and just enough for it not to fit and height 1-3/8 ] Orginial, diameter is a full 1-3/4 and 1-1/4 height.[ 1-1/8 across the top cover [Org] and 1-3/16 [Repro].There is a notch in the base and cover to line up Then you should twist to lock. The opening on the cover for the light is larger on the repro too.
