Repro A decklid

A fellow in Oregon called me stating he has some reman deck lids. His name is Don. I got burned on Ford Barn one other time and I'm concerned that it will happen again. Anyone had any dealing with a Don in Oregon?

While I do not know who Don is, --nor his character (so please do not construe this as anything derrogatory with regard to him) I do feel you need to do what YOUR conscience says to do in this and rely solely on that as your foundation for any transaction. References on people can be misleading as there is always a first time for someone to do something wrong. Therefore if you do not feel comfortable, then walk away and find your item somewhere else. If you do want to try to make this work, be honest with yourself first, and then share your sentiments with the person you are trying to do business with. Both of you collectively can place safeguards that protect both parties, ...and each will respect the other one's wishes if all motives are pure. Just my 2 cents...

How did Don find you, that may help you evaluate him? Are his posts something that someone in the hobby would make or ??

Any deal even face to face is always a leap of faith. I have not to this point had any trouble with anyone on the New FB. However I had one real bad deal on the Old FB with Joe Cordino when I bought his AR wheels, the pic's were poor and his dicsiption was downright dishonest. I did atleast recieve the wheels and tried to get my money back from him as they were beyond fixable. I ended up not getting my money back and selling them with the scrap iron.

Even at a swapmeet or someone stopping by to buy something there is always the chance of counterfiet bills as a seller. Less risk face to face as a buyer as you get to see the parts up close, not relying on someones word and afew pic's via the internet. Alot of risk as buyer on the internet, miscomunication, being deperate fot the part and assuming the best when the seller tries to show you the worst and afew just plain thieves. As Brent said above if you don't feel comfortable with the deal don't buy the parts. Just listing someones first name and the state likely won't get you too far as far as info here. User name and his posting history will say alot.

When I bought the tool box assembly for my delivery on the Old FB, I had vaguely heard of the person who called me in responce to my wanted post, but he knew some things about the tool box assemblies that only a person who had some time to study the part closely would know, so I went ahead and sent the money without even seeing pic's. Blind faith that worked out well. Abit overpriced, but also the only person who had the complete assembly for sale. It's not like these pop up on e-bay 2 or 3 times a year.

Ask some questions and ask for some pictures. Anyone serious about selling and actually have what they say they are selling, will have the right answers and with some luck pictures showing the good and the bad of the part.

I ask this guy if he could maybe e mail me some pictures and he said that he couldn't do it. He said that it is too much of a problem. When I talked to him the other day he quoted me a price of $450 for an original decklid. When I talked to him today he said $750. I have a deck lid that isn't too bad with rust out on the bottom. If he still has a deck lid this spring my wife and I will take a road trip. Thanks for the input.

That sounds like a jerk I was dealing with on some 66 GTO parts. Every time that I had contact with him he would either change the price or say that he wasn't really interested in selling the part. I think that he wanted me to beg for the part. I eventually told him that I wasn't interested in doing business with him and he could keep his parts.

Emailing a couple of pictures to make 750 bucks too much trouble? He sounds like trouble.

Humble & sincere advice:

$450.00, then $750.00; sounds like his part of the country has a different inflation rate -- let us know what he wants in the spring -- in case of trickle down economics, might halp in buying future summer stock on the NY Stock Exchange.

Don't walk, run away. Keep looking, there's lots of lids out there I'm sure. This thread will probably also generate some new leads. JMO

The price change is the only real problem to me.I can see the pictures being a problem,I have to get people to take them and put them in the computer for me.I just tell them in a little different way and explain it to them.Where I am deck lids and doors for most A's sell themselves.we don't have to negotiate on them.If Harry doesn't want to pay the price then Fred over there will. There are way more people looking for those parts than there are good used ones laying around.I almost never sell things like that over the internet.I want them to look in person. If you are dealing over the phone I find that to be a big plus.If it is just through the internet I get wary until I have had a chance to feel things out.If you tell them you would like to meet with them in person, ask for their address, and they refuse or give you a runaround it is time to back off. While I have a hard time understanding it some people don't want to have people come to their home.If that is the case then they need to be prepared to do things like take pictures and pack things to ship.I've had people that were afraid to come to my place to pick things up.They want to meet me at McDonalds or something.I've bought and sold stuff all my life, and if I want to buy something I find out where it is and go after it.Probably because I wasn't brought up in an internet-paranoid environment. The only real burn I've had over the internet was from a guy here one the Fordbarn,it was from a guy called Polo,in Texas.

I wouldn't do it after the price change and refusal to send photos.

Gee, you have to go out of your way to the bank and drum up $750, but it's too much trouble for him to push a button on his camera and email you? Little unfair don't you think?

He either doesn't want your money, or doesn't have the item he is advertising.

I don't sell much. I'd like to sell more, BUT......for me, it's a hassle! I try not to sell without pics and I may not be able to post them. Then there's shipping! Besides the outrageous costs, there's the packaging, wrapping etc. I'm getting too old...... This never used to bother me, but now I don't like to fool with it.
