Replacing wood above windshield

I have a late model 1930 coupe
I want to replace the wood header only above the windshield The previous owner installed an exterior metal roof which the sun visor is attached to
Is it possible to replace the wood header without removing the metal visor?
This car is just a driver the installation does not have to be perfect

When working on my son's car he showed me a repair done to the header.

They took the header and cut it in half on an angle.

The wedged in the left side, then the right side and glued and screwed the two angle cuts together.

Hope my crude diagram helps explain what was done. Might be work a try? (We replaced the header)
 
I am in the process of replacing my header wood on my late '31 coupe. The visor must be removed to install the wood. Pay particular to the door header wood that fits into the header panel, as it is usually rotted if the header is.
