replacing the old light bulbs for new?

I was pricing an original headlight bulb for my 33 and saw that it was 52.00. Got me thinking, I would like all my bulbs to be brighter for safety reasons. Anyone know of replacement bulbs that are brighter and maybe cheaper and easier to get? Thanks

I'm sure there are halogen replacements for these cars. Mac's has a listing for a halogen bulb that looks like it has the same base as the original, and it is meant for a 6V application if you need it. They also have 12V bulbs as well.

However, the price is quite high. I would also check into seeing if there are other bulbs out there with the same wattage and that style base, such as an 1157 bulb or 1156. Those are signaling bulbs though.

Just a word of caution about converting to halogen bulbs... The original bulbs and the upgrade to 50/32 bulbs are both prefocused, the halogens are not. Many complain that halogens are bright, but splay light all over the place rather than on the road where you need it. Also, halogens draw so much juice that failing to upgrade with relays will not provide a substantial improvement in brightness anyway.

Thanks for that. I was thinking about the conversion but I think I will stay away from it and keep it 100% original. I guess that one site I was out was the highest price- most of those bulbs are about 3 bucks.

I'm not sure if the halogen replacement bulbs are the same way as the halogen conversion bulbs. The ones I posted look like a normal bulb, not like an H1 or such bulb. Also, they probably do not produce a lot of heat like the H1 bulbs do. So as far as the beam goes, I'm pretty sure they are just a halogen-type upgrade bulb, much like the halogen boxed bulbs that replace the incandescent bulbs.

There are different qualitys of quartz halogen bulbs, it is the care during assembly that sets the focus---I have used bulbs from http://www.classicandvintagebulbs.com/index.html , made by a car guy, the focus is the same as original bulbs, I bought a spare but in 12 years havn't needed it, I am using stock sockets and a stock generator, when I put them in I lowered the charging rate from what I had to have with the 50cp regular bulbs ---the biggest surprise was that the light output didn't hace any dicernable change when at idle and the generator wasn't charging much, all the signs, mile markers and reflecters light up for over .3-.4 of a mile(over 8 electric poles) ----I have made no modifications to use these bulbs.

if you go to Hershey --chocolate field --C4R13 ---talk to Anthony , go early, he sold out last year of the early Ford types
