Replacing plug wires

I just finished changing a set of plug wires on my 48. What a miserable job, I can't believe what a poor design that 2 piece cap is. Can I adapt a crab style cap on my original 48 style distributor? I am using the original brown wires, would they work on the crab cap? I will fire the car up tomorrow, hopefully none of the wires pulled loose from the inner cap. I also realized I forgot the gasket that goes between the inner and outer caps, need I be concerned? Car will not be driven in any bad weather. Any tips on how to make this task any easier, and yes, I used WD-40 as a lubricant.

Yes your basic dist can be converted to the crab cap with the 42 cap, rotor and clips and you need 9 nipples for the legs on the cap and proper gasket. PM if your interested. ken ct.USA made stuff.

The 59A set up was intended to ease customer complaints of moisture problems in the distributor by sealing it up better. It does the job but makes it a real job to work on. If you don't drive in the rain, the 42 type crab cap set up is a viable alternative.
