Replacing gas line shutoff

Seems as though everything I touch breaks, and don't realy want to break off the shutoff going into the gas tank. Anything I can spray or use around the threads to assure backing out the shutoff without breaking. Tried WD-40 on other things in the gas line, like connections to the sediment bowl, but they still broke off. Help!

WD 40 is a poor penetrating oil, tho' it is a good dielectric water displacer (hence the WD). Try Kroil or PB blaster or even Liquid Wrench. Apply it from the inside side of the tank and a bit on the outside, tap it , let it sit some, repeat. Allow it to do its work. Apply it several times in a day, walk away and try removing it the next day. Turn the wrench with steady, even force. The fitting is brass, so forcing it brutally or bending it in any but a rotating plane can break it off.

If you use an adjustable wrench, grab it with both hands and try your best to apply ONLY rotational force. When you push hard on the wrench handle you put a lot of side force on the fitting and that's often what breaks them.
