Replacing Fordomatic shift linkage seal on 1956 Thunderbird

Can you replace the shift linkage seal on Fordomatic on a 1956 Thunderbird without removing the transmission. A transmission shop told me there was not room to remove the shaft to replace the seal.

there is a video online showing this very thing on a t bird.he did it and shows the whole thing.you should be able to find it.

Thanks! Man, what a great video. I’m afraid it is beyond my capability and I’m not even sure my transmission shop would want to tackle it and if they would what it would cost. Now I understand why some people pull the engine and transmission out to do work like this.

I also saw info on how to remove transmission leaving the engine in place. Not sure which two options is easiest or less costly if I take it to a shop.
