i was over to a friends place two days ago looking at his T roadster pickup, he was trying to replace the trans bands, its the second type with the removeable ears, the removable ears are on the passenger side of the trans and with the ear off we cant get the band out, in the manual were using it looks like the removable ears should be on the drivers side of the trans, so my question is do we need to remove the top half of the trans now or can we bend the bands to get them out?

You are correct they are on the wrong side of the transmission. You will need to remove the hogs head to remove them with out damaging them. Just put them back in the correct way so next time you won't have to pull the hogs head but if you use the kevlar bands that day may never come from what I have been told.

so the hogs head is just the top half of the bellhousing? we also discovered that the driveshaft tube was installed upside down as well, i guess its a good time to correct that as well, thanks for the help guys.

Yes the hogs head is the top half of the bell housing. Ya good tiem to make that correction. You may wnat to check your babbitted fourth main and if your bushing in the drive shaft right away as well.
As for on line not sure but there is a book and video on the trany from the MTFCA I would recomend to get at some point. You don't really need them for this but if you ever tear down the trany you will want them.
