Replacement sediment bowl

I recently replaced my broken glass sediment bowl with a new one and the threads are absolutely horrible and got buggered up. Is there a glass sediment bowl that’s a good replacement? My cars a 31 coupe without an indented firewall.

You don't say exactly how the original is broken. Is the fail in the casting, or in the glass?

If its the glass alone, a replacement glass can be bought. Sometimes retaining as much original is a better solution choice.

So easily said. Currently the glass is "Temporarily out of stock" at Snyders.

I have two that I have purchased where the thread just pulled out of the outlet area. I suspect that is the reason why they are out of production now. You might check with Steve Becker at Bert's Model-A and see if he has some.

These slides may help you.

I, for one, deeply appreciate any of Bob Bidonde's information and graphics. They're exceptional! I'm an owner of "A"s for over fifty years and am still learning. Thanks, Bob

Yes, Bob's slides are nice but do not pertain to the issue in this thread.

The new replacement one had bad threads on the male end inside the cab. The glass is fine.

It’s the male end threads that are bad. I threaded the fuel line on and the line leaked so I took the line back off and the pot metal threads were trash.

It is really easy to cross thread the pot metal threads. I am wondering if a helical coil insert would help with the female threads. In the case of the male threads, is there a repair that can be glued on with something like JB Weld?

When I first read the starting thread, I thought he was replacing JUST the broken glass sediment bowl. I couldn't understand how the threads went bad just unscrewing and then tightening the bowl. Don't know why he replaced the whole sediment bowl assembly because the glass bowl broke. I guess I'm over-thinking this????????????????

Ditto

The OP said inlet (male) side.

Isn't that a "flare" connection?

It may be possible to "flatten" the flare and tap drill/tap for 1/8" pipe compression fitting. Choose the fitting to match the od of the former flare connection.

Not original but at least I can see it might work.

I hate having a drip here - the gasoline drip gets on the floor mat and "bubbles" it, not to mention the safety issue.

I know my slides may not be relevant to the problem, but I think someone may find them useful, so I post them anyhow.
