Replacement ignitions switch recommendation

Can anyone recommend a quality repro on /off ignition switch that fits the '31 round speedo instrument panel ? Anything besides the Nu Rex Switch, please.

I have found the Nu Rex switch to be the best fitting replacement switch out there. Can I ask why you specifically call it out as something you don't want?

I cannot recommend a brand, although the one that Bruce showed, Post #2, would be a good one. But I do recommend switching over to modern wiring where the entire ignition system is switched off when the switch is off. In my mind this is a safety issue. The original pop-out switches were designed for a theft problem in 1928. But this is not the same now.

There are still restored originals popping up on flea-pay. If I put a faux pop out in, I'd likely wire as suggested in post #4. Run a power wire to show a discharge on the ammeter with the switch wire to the coil. The ground wire from the coil would connect to the distributor through an armored cable like the old ground control pop out. You would just have the ground wire coming out the top of the armor and then back out the terminal box and up to the coil.

The issue of leaving the ignition switch on will always be there. When points are closed and ignition on, it will still power up the coil. It's all about making a completed circuit no matter which way it's wired. Some mistakes can be expensive so always make sure you turn the ignition off.

For antique ignition model airplane engines a transistorized ignition system is available. it still uses the points but the current through the points is minuscule. But the best feature is that the ignition is switched off in a couple seconds if the engine stops or is not started. As soon as the prop is flipped the ignition is switched back on. The battery in the plane is tiny so this saves the battery and also the small hard-to-replace antique coils.

Hello, I installed a rebuild original in my car ,also a master cut off switch on the battery to disconnect all electric. do this on any antique car I own for additional safety and thief protection.

Cutting off battery. Great idea, what a concept!! Not rocket science. Wonder why Henry didn't think of that?? Not many rockets back then I guess.

I went to the Ford dealer looking for a new switch for my '31 pickup and ended up w/a new switch w/a new F-150 attached. Expensive switch.
