replacement fan blade

Has anyone found a readily available blade for the 42-48 four blade fan?

Mine shed a blade Thursday taking the cap off the front mounted distributor and doing some other minor damage. Needles to say motive action ceased immediately.

Speedway has a universal six blade that looks promising. I have to wait until Monday to talk with a tech to see if they have some more specs.

Anyone have any advice or ideas?

Thanks,

Lucky it only caused minor damage. Could have been devastating if you were under the hood with the motor running. I would look at going to the local dismantler and looking for one that might fit. Your local parts store may have a universal one that might fit.

I talked with Speedway, their tech person and AFCO. AFCO is owned by Speedway and that is who supplies their fan blades. So far no luck. I need some more dimensions for a couple of their fans before I order something I'll have to modify. AFCO is supposed to call me with the information I need.

I do have another original fan but I'm hesitant to trust another old possibly stressed fan blade. I'm wanting something new made with modern steel.

Color me chicken. I really don't want a bigger disaster on my hands.

True, **** happens. I'm guilty of pointing out a used fan to a friend at a swap meet. That fan lost a blade on his beautiful '36 Ford, causing considerable damage. I hadn't noticed a crack in the blade, obvious after the fact, but not to us on that day.
Fact for you: Your auto insurance (Comprehensive) is no deductible full coverage. The damage caused by your fan is reimbursible to you. The fan, which caused the damage, is on you.
