Replace drag link and idler arm.

Hello all,

Looking for some helpful tips on replacing the drag link and idler arm for my 1951 mercury. The merc is all stock and will be replacing all parts with stock parts from Mac auto. I have received some of the parts in the mail and waiting for some tie rods to come.

My question to anyone that has experience doing this, is this something that can be done without special tools? And are there any details or special procedures and what not to do?

After reading the shop manual, doesn't seem to hard but figure I should ask the experts first..

The worst is for me to take it to find a mechanic and pay someone else. Hopefully I can learn for myself but steering linkage is something I never touched.

Thanks

You can do it yourself. Take photos and make notes as you go. You will have to align the front end when you are all done. These books will help a lot.

Ditto on above post. Make sure nuts are tight and use new cotter pins. Try to find the alignment specs. for the guy doing the alignment.

Thank you for the feed back. I do have the same shop manuals on disk.

Would anyone know if i adjust the linkage with the tires off the ground or on? Or does it matter? My concern is the small details on adjustments and what not.

Also, what grease is good to use on fittings?

Thanks
