Somehow my radiator overflow tube is damaged beneath the baffle and constantly drips when the engine is running. Is it possible to replace the tube by soldering-on a new one? Anyone know a place to get a replacement tube?
Sparky, It's EASY! Just pop the rad off & take it to a rad shop, 10 minutes & a piece of copper tubing & it's DONE! If you have a propane torch, you can do it yourself! Bill W.
Went to bend mine so it wasn't in the way of my motometer and it broke off below the baffle. As Bill said I took mine to a radiator shop and had it repaired.
The baffle on my rad wore a hole in the O-F tube, but it only took 10 or 15 minutes to solder a piece of copper tubing & bend it to center it in hole in baffle.
Sparky, Soldering is easy & fun with a lil' practice. You need soldering acid or tinning compound to clean the metal well. Punch some holes in an old can & practice soldering short chunks of tubing to it, it's easy & fun! Don't ever hesitate to try SILVER solder, it's just as easy, but much stronger. I have a GIANT old electric soldering iron from Chief, it's amazing what I can solder with it. I once soldered a HEAVY shiny flat washer to the bottom of a coffee can with it, just for practice! I even soldered my radiator neck to the top tank with it! Look for them at yard sales, they're cheap! With practice, you can become an expurt solderererer~~~~~~~~~Bill W.
