I have a 1930 AA motor that was given to me. It was left outside and uncovered, and is all locked up. I spent weeks removing the head and weeks freeing the valves that were frozen in the guides, but havent been able to remove the guides. The cam is frozen and will not turn, even though I have the cam gear off. The pistons are frozen either in the cyl or at the wrist pins. Which leads me the the question at hand. I want to remove the crankshaft. What do you folks use to remove the square head bolts/nuts that hold the main caps down? I tried a 14mm open end wrench that fit well, but broke trying to remove the bolt. (no problem its a sears wrench) 5/8 six point socket is to small, 11/16 12 point is to big.
I do not need to rebuild this motor, but if needed it might make a good core. I am just taking it apart to increase my knowledge of the inter workings and assemble procedures. I would like to reassemble it when I am sastified that I have larned all I could from this practice, so cutting nuts, bolts, valves etc. is the last thing I want to do. This was/is a winter project to keep me from going crazy with cabin fever.
Thanks in advance for any and all responces.
