Removing starter with modern Bendix

I purchased a modern Bendix drive for the starter on my 30 coupe. Works great! However, when I removed it recently, I could not wiggle that bugger out of the flywheel housing for the life of me! I had to remove the water-inlet on the side of the block and the return pipe, to give me a straight shot 'out' of the flywheel housing hole. I was removing my engine anyway, so no big deal, but for future reference, is there a trick to removing the starter (with a modern Bendix on it) WITHOUT the need to remove the water inlet?
Thanks!

Barry, I put one in a '31 and took it out later on. I just had to jiggle it some what to remove it. If it went in without removing the water inlet pipe it has to come out the same way. "Patience"

Thanks; just knowing it "can be done" helps. (by the way, when I installed it the first time, the steering column and body had not been installed, and yesterday I made sure to install it before I bolted the water inlet assembly back on, so I've never installed it with everything in place either)

I usually just have to remove the oil dip stick. Agree with Model A Man. It has to drop down, wiggle a little bit and then out.
