Removing Scratches From Windshield

I have my windshield out and am getting ready to repaint the frame. After a couple of hours work I see some wiper scratches in the flat glass. Can any body tell me what products I need to take them out?? Do not want to buy new glass. Thanks in advance, Bill

I had the same light wiper scratches and used Eastwood's Rhodite Glass Polishing Compound. Comes with a mandreled Polishing Wheel.

Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful in removing the scratches despite following the directions. :(

Good luck.

its almost impossible to remove scratches from glass, if you can feel them while passing your finger nail over them they can not be removed, take the windshield to several glass shops, you will be amazed at the differences in prices, its cheaper to have one cut than to buy one from a parts dealer

Bill - IF the scratches are not too deep - they can be removed with Jeweler's Rouge: Go to any jewelry shop, explain the problem, and ask for their assistance. Been there, done that, successfully.

Called my jewerly store yesterday because it was too hot to go visit them. They can get different colors of rouge but had no idea what one would be for flat glass. They could not explain how to use it on glass. Could some body explain how to do this??

Bill, ford1's advice is correct. I own a glass shop and occasionally have to remove scratches from glass. If you can feel it with your fingernail the chances of polishing out the scratch are not good. You have to wear down the surface of the glass to the depth of the scratch, which on deep scratches leaves you with the glass looking distorted. And it takes a VERY long time.

LOL, you are stubborn and determined, take a deep breath and re read GarryA's post, hes a glass man and told you the truth, even if you do manage to remove the scratches you will have a distorted view out the windshield, like looking thru a glass of water, if you can feel the scratch with your finger nail buy a new windshield
