Removing original fuel tank

Guys,

Would like to ditch my old, original fuel tank in a '33 fordor. Will be replacing with a new steel one.
What's the correct sequence for getting that beast out from under?

Thanks!!!

No magic to it, just remove the bumper and rear panel. Undo the connections to the tank, remove the tank bolts and slide the tank out towards the rear.

This is from memory, if I left anything out it will be obvious.

On my coupe I had to remove the triangular support panels so I could undo the tank bolts.

Mart.

Hi Mart.
Thanks much.
I wasn't sure if there was a tricky way to do this without removing the spare, the bumper, the gas tank cover panel, etc. That would seem the logical way, but I've read others' threads about attempts at going from underneath...initial problem was getting the three mounting bolts off. Especially the one with the spring on it. Some guy had to saw it off and it was a major pain. I will proceed to empty the tank first (hah) then start the dismantling process.

Robb, While you've got the tank out you may want to install a fuel shut off
in the line for future convenience. You can see mine in the photo. I soldered it in. I used a radiator drain pet ****. The rubber collar keeps it from hitting the floor. Just an idea.

Interesting idea. Can I ask (without sounding really ignorant) in what situation would this be helpful? Thanks much

Mart makes it sound easy. My experience on my 33/34... pretty much like Mart says, but I had to remove the rear spreader / combination tire mount. Getting the 3 bolts out can be a pain if they are really rusted. And, the biggest hangup, holding my tongue just right to get the tank out. It had to be tipped 'just-right', and then the tank would come out. But, finding the 'just-right' position was a chore. Same for putting it back in.
I would also speculate that if your goal is to put in a new reproduction tank, you will likely face some problems. I envision that the repro tank (if you are using one) will not be made quite the same, and may even be impossible to install, unless you consider unbolting the body from the frame and lifting the body. Just my opinion. I have no experience with repro tanks for a 33/34. But, for later models, some tanks don't fit without lifting the body.

That sounds kinda scary to me right now, on the eve of me ordering a new repro tank.
I've been searching around and reading as much as possible on who has the correct tank.

Drake, Mac's, Carpenter, C&G.????
Are they really all the same?
I do not want to lift the body nor do have the garage or ability to do so.
May have to wait and hope someone chimes in that has done the repro tank swap on a '33 and hear the story! From one BobH to another....Thanks for the advice.

Hi Mart,
I found your thread. WOW. Great project and worthy of every effort to save that gem. This will help tremendously.
