Removing lower bell housing on a 38 v8

I pulled the motor on a (39) v8 to replace a bad starter ring. I removed the 4 bolts from the lower housing. It appears to have more fasteners that can't find. What am I missing?

I see this is your second post here, welcome to the Ford Barn.

We need more information. Flathead V8s with different oil pans and bell housing types from all sorts of years get swapped into other old Fords. We need to know what family of engine and what type of oil pan you are working with before we can answer your question.

If you are working on a 38 or 39 engine with the one piece oil pan then you will have to remove the complete oil pan to pull the flywheel.

I can't answer your question if you are working with an early type engine with the big truck removable bell housing area, I haven't worked on one of those.

If you are working on an 8BA type engine then you pull the bell housing off the back of the block.

along with the rest of the bolts on the oil pan there is one bolt in rear of pan that comes from the top.

Many thanks guys. The full pan had to be removed. Is there an engine I'd on the block? I assumed it was the original engine as it has been in the family since 53. Front block mounted water pumps, 24 stud heads. Again thanks for the help.

No numbers on a prewar block. But if you give nice clear pics of the block right in front of the intake manifold we can probably confirm the year.
