Removing Ignition Wire from Distributer

Hi all,

Working on getting a 28 Model A running, and discovered that someone in the past has destroyed the ignition switch. I have a new switch, etc, on the way, but am curious as to how the armored cable comes out of the bottom of the distributer.

Does it just unscrew, or is there more to it than that?

Yup, just like Bob said. Remove the distributor and thread it off the cable. In other words hold the cable still with some vice grips and twist off the dizzy.

Good deal. So to prevent a short, should I spin it in until it bottoms out, then back it off a turn or two?

If you have to remove the head nut that clamps to the dist cable donot forget to drain the water from the radiator or you may find water/antifreeze in the oil pan.

do not tighten the cable and then back off. You are just attempting to make contact with the lower plate contact arm and it will bend and short out the Dizzy. Make contact, then only enough more tension to orient the housing.
